Older electrical systems were built for a different way of life: there were fewer appliances, no EV chargers, and no solar. When the wiring, panels, and main service in your home or building falls behind the times, it’s more of a fire risk than inconvenience at that point. Big Island Electric handles electrical upgrades for homes, condos, hotels, and commercial buildings across West Hawaii. Our team plans the project,t pulls the permits, and completes the work with as little description of daily life as possible.
When do you need an electrical upgrade? Look for these signs.
Interested in the possibilities? Here’s what we offer islanders.
Maybe it’s time for a new electrical start. Upgrading your electrical panel to make way for a new EV charger, brand new appliances, or adding onto your home or business is the right move.
We’ll replace the meter, main disconnect, and service entrance conductors that connect your property to the utility
We handle full switchgear replacements for condos, hotels, and commercial buildings, taking care of everything from coordinating the utilities to setting up temporary power.
We’ll replace the outdated (and frankly hazardous) knob-and-tube wiring in your home or business with modern wiring that meet modern codes (and are much safer)
We’ll upgrade panels and service equipment to support new EV chargers, generators, or even solar.
Add the new circuits, panel changes, and service capacity that go with a remodeling project.
The Big Island Electric crew recently completed a major upgrade at Casa De Emdeko, the oceanfront condominium community on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona. Their original main switchgear had reached the end of its life and needed a full replacement.
Manufacturer leads times were long; we were waiting a year for the right parts. But even with a year-long wait for equipment, that gave us more than enough time to plan every detail in advance. Once the gear arrived, our crew did the entire teardown, installation, and testing process within a tight four-day window. We also coordinated two large portable generators to keep critical property systems running, ensuring residents were never left in the dark during the planned outage.
Big mahalo to Scott, Niko, Brent, Eric, and Taylor on our team! It was a long few days, but they did excellent and careful work that brought the property back online in no time.
